I am an Egyptology student, and I also volunteer at a museum of Egyptology in Swansea, South Wales, where we have a gallery for the things that were used in life, and one for the things that were used in death. The symbol we use there to represent death is nfr "nefer" which is represented by the heart and windpipe of an ox, and can be found in any decent book on Egyptology.
