Last I heard, Gatenbrink was not allowed to return to continue his study. Also, Gatnebrink volunteered to train people at the antiquities to operate the robot and was still denied. Nobody knows what is on the other side of the "door". I saw a rumor on a board last year that said that "secret" exploration of the osiris chamber (this is what they were calling any room on the other side of the door) was being carried out by the unscrupulous head of antiquities, Zahi Hawass. It said that Hawass was using invasive, destructive techniques to get behind the door. I think that what was actually going on was the installation of the new air-handling system in the great pyramid. However, I wouldn't put anything past Hawass.
