The Egyptians used to go to the temple, where they would follow a specific ritual which could include bathing, eating, worship of specific god or gods. They would then go to sleep and hopefully, have a dream (which was in fact a message from their gods). This would then be intepreted by the priests of the temple. There are quite a few book which deal with this - usually under the psychology section rather than Egyptology. There is one called "Dreams & Dreaming" but I can't remember the author.
