We are still left with a problem if we are to view this as history. If the Jewish nation in an exodus were headed TO the Promise Land, then where was the land of their origin? The sequence of stories does not hold up and this is a problem. You can't go back to someone you've never been. Or, if you've been there then it should be familiar, have some traces of your presence and should not require uproot nations of people who have a history there. This differs greatly from the post war Exodus from Eastern Europe where there is a past and a prior history.
