The Mnevis bull was worshipped in Heliopolis; the Apis bull in Memphis; and the Buchis bull in Thebes. They represented the god Atum, Ptah, and Montu respectively. The bull is also associated with the primeval waters, the Book of the Dead, and ancient Egyptian astronomy. For more information I recommend a book called "Reading Egyptian Art: A Heiroglyphic Guide to Ancient Egyptian Painting and Sculpture" by Richard H. Wilkinson, or please contact me at the email address above.
